National Adaptation Plan (NAP)
The National Adaptation Plan (NAP) process is designed to help countries—particularly developing nations—reduce their vulnerability to the adverse effects of climate change. It does so through strategic, forward-looking planning that incorporates projections of future climate conditions. NAPs are widely regarded as a critical tool for enabling effective climate adaptation.
In Iraq, a three-year project funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) with an investment exceeding USD $2.5 million is underway to support the development and implementation of its NAP. This initiative places a strong emphasis on building institutional, technical, and financial capacities, ensuring that the country’s medium- and long-term adaptation priorities are fully embedded within national development strategies.
